Austrian contractor PORR has won an additional Romanian contract, while other projects are also underway in the country.
Austrian contractor PORR Construct has been awarded Lot 4 for the Pitesti-Sibiu highway project in Romania, while other projects are also underway in the country. PORR’s deal is worth over €342 million and the package of works was awarded by the National Company for the Administration of Road Infrastructure (CNAIR).
This section of the highway is just under 10km in length and connects Tigveni with Curtea de Arges. The contract has to be carried out within a 60 month period.
PORR Construct is already working on the 13.2km Lot 1 stretch of the project, one of the five lots for the highway. When the road is complete it will stretch 123km and reduce travel times between Pitesti and Sibiu, as well as improving safety for drivers.
Meanwhile, the €110.5 million contract for the 26.35km Suplacu de Barcau - Chiribis highway section has been awarded to a joint venture made up of Constructii Erbasu and Vahostav. The contrct includes both planning and construction phases. The work is expected to take two years to complete. The project will be complex as it includes building three viaducts, eight bridges and three tunnel sections.
And in addition, the tender process is underway for the 59km Targoviste to Sinaia road improvement project. The work is expected to cost €203.6 million, with a portion of the funding required to be provided by the EU. Included in the work will be the construction of 14 new bridges and improvement works to eight existing bridges. Two tunnel sections will also be improved.
