$280 million price tag for Panama Canal bridge

A third bridge crossing the Panama Canal could cost up to US$280 million according to the initial parameters set out in the tender for the project's construction.

A third bridge crossing the Panama Canal could cost up to US$280 million according to the initial parameters set out in the tender for the project's construction.

The 5km cable-stayed crossing will have two lanes in each direction and sit 75m above the water level at the Atlantic Ocean end of the canal.

The ACP canal authority has also ruled out the possible construction of a tunnel under the canal.

The tender is set to be published in early 2012.

Bidders announced for Panama project

The consortium made up of Acciona Infraestructuras and Tradeco from Spain and Mexico and the consortium made up of Odebrecht and Hyundai Joint Venture from Brazil and South Korea plus Vinci Construction Grands Projets from France have pre-quali ed in the tender for the construction of a new bridge at the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal.
