Taxi drivers in the UK town of Preston have now been told to follow strict rules regarding the clothes that they wear as well as their personal health. The local authorities now require taxi drivers to dress in smart clothes and are also telling the cabbies to get fit, lose weight and stop smoking. Bare chests, football shirts and flip-flop footwear have all been banned by the authorities. Many taxi drivers in the area have complained that the requirements are ridiculous, especially as many have to work late shifts and this means that they inevitably eat junk food as well as spending a long time sitting down behind the wheel. Others have been slightly more positive however and Preston may soon benefit from leaner and fitter cab drivers. The authorities in Preston are hoping the town's taxi drivers will follow the example set by Scottish capital Edinburgh, where cabbies now have to wear smart trousers and collared shirts.
