French manufacturer 2441 Mecalac is making its first appearance CONEXPO-CON/AGG as part of its strategy to expand into the American markets. The company unveiled two new wheeled excavators at the show, as well as displaying its existing range, and announced it is looking for potential distributors.

Up till recently, Mecalac specialised in compact machines for the European market. Last year, as part of its growth ambitions, the company acquired the Terex factory in Coventry, England, and renamed it Mecalac Construction Equipment UK. The facility manufactures a range of backhoe loaders and site dumpers - formerly sold under the Fermec and Benford brands - as well as compaction rollers. These all have larger specifications than Mecalac's traditional range and are therefore more suitable for the larger worksites in American markets.

“With the range of products we now have we think it is a good time to be in the Americas – not only the north, but the south as well,” says Henri Marchetta, chairman and CEO of Mecalac.

Massachusetts-based Lorusso Heavy Equipment is Mecalac's first distributor in North America. “We are keen to develop relationships with other potential distributors at CONEXPO,” says Marchetta.

Mecalac is showing its new MCR crawler skid-excavator, which embodies the company's approach to innovation, says Marchetta. The machine combines a skid steer and an excavator, plus a telehandler with a versatile boom. It can travel at 6.2 mph and rotate 360 degrees while carrying 40% of its own weight.

Also introduced at the show is the new MWR wheeled excavator range. By fitting the upper carriage as low as possible between the wheels, the design of the machines aims to combine the rotation of a wheeled excavator with the stability of a telescopic handler. company.
