Doosan’s DX140LCR-5 crawler excavator has reduced tail swing

Doosan’s new DX140LCR-5 15tonne reduced tail swing crawler excavator is powered by the Perkins 1204F engine, which combines reduced fuel consumption with the power and torque of larger engines with a smaller displacement. The new Perkins 1204F engine provides a 6% increase in power with an output of 85.9kW at 2,000 rpm and a 3% increase in torque. Swing torque has also been boosted by 28%.

Trouble-free operation is guaranteed by meeting Stage IV emission regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) after-treatment technologies.

Fuel consumption has been lowered by up to 10% compared to the previous generation machine, thanks I large part to the Stage IV engine. But other upgrades work in this favour. Fuel consumption can be read directly on the LCD panel and the engine can be shut off automatically after a pre-set time when the machine is not being operated. In addition, to save fuel, Doosan has developed a special new system – called Smart Power Control (SPC) – to optimise the balance between the pumps’ output and the diesel engine.

The versatile DX140LCR-5 features an electronic power optimising system (e-EPOS), which provides optimum power and fuel efficiency through four power modes (Eco, Standard, Power and Power +), auto-idle and machine diagnostics.

A new 7-inch TFT LCD colour monitor control panel offers an attractive display and excellent functionality.  All functions can be controlled both from the instrument panel as well as via a new jog shuttle control next to the joystick, a feature exclusive to Doosan excavators. Flow and pressure rate control are also standard for convenient and easy adjustment to match the requirements of every attachment.

Being able to switch control of the auxiliary lines between the joystick and the two-way pedal greatly lessens any discomfort that may be caused by extended or repetitive use of the joystick alone to control attachments (such as a shear or a breaker).  It is also helpful when precision is required – as the operator can keep full control of the excavator via the joystick while using the two-way pedal for attachments.

For additional convenience, the controls for the auxiliary lines on the joysticks have been repositioned, with the rotation and shear rollers positioned for left/right movement. The joysticks have also been shortened to reduce the effort required to operate them and an additional pedal for straight travel has now been installed on the left of the main travel pedals, a very useful feature when travelling straight over longer distances.

The DX140LCR-5 excavator is offered as standard with a 2.59m width, 600mm steel shoes and with monobloc front working equipment. Among numerous options offered are articulated front working equipment; sturdy dozer blades and 500mm rubber track pads (reducing machine width to 2.49m). The last mentioned above are ideal for reducing damage to asphalt roads on urban work sites.
