Wirtgen is increasing its concrete paving range

Wirtgen continues to develop its slipformer line-up with the addition of three new SP80 series models, each of which is built along modular lines and available in two versions. These machines are the SP81 and SP81i, the SP82 and SP82i and Sp84 and SP84i and are said to be designed to suit a wide range of applications, offering high-precision paving and ease of use.

Wirtgen’s new pavers are designed to suit an array of concrete slipforming requirements
2395 Wirtgen continues to develop its slipformer line-up with the addition of three new SP80 series models, each of which is built along modular lines and available in two versions. These machines are the SP81 and SP81i, the SP82 and SP82i and Sp84 and SP84i and are said to be designed to suit a wide range of applications, offering high-precision paving and ease of use.

The SP81 and SP81i are designed for offset paving tasks and can be used for jobs such as barrier wall installation with customers able to select these machines featuring either three or four tracks, depending on job requirements. The SP81 is the base unit while the SP81i comes with sophisticated paving controls. Both models can be used for slipforming work such as kerbs, narrow paths or barriers up to 2.3m high and 3m wide as standard. The offset mould can be mounted on either side, allowing the machine to be adapted to site conditions and for optimum results, even in cramped spaces. Both models have a flexibly positioned trimmer said to ensure precision on uneven ground. The spiral-shaped trimmer drum, which is fitted with cutters, mills away uneven areas, permitting uniform paving of the profile.

The SP82 and SP82i are the standard and intelligent versions respectively of the two track paver, while the SP84 is a four track machine and is also offered in the SP84i variant and all four models are designed for inset paving applications. These machines can pave roadways and surfaces from 2-8m wide and with paving thicknesses of up to 400mm as standard, although greater thicknesses can be achieved if required. These machines can be used to form concrete pavements with a double cross fall of up to 3% and are both available as special versions for the US market.

The modular design said to allow a wide range of applications and deliver high-precision paving. The modular construction allows contactors find the best package for inset and offset applications. Simple conversions or extensions of additional machine components can provide a solution for complex, customer-specific applications, maximising versatility. Operating weight ranges from 19-59.5tonnes, depending on the set up for the application and the width of slab being paved. Power comes from an emissions compliant diesel delivering 155kW and when folded down for transport, the machines measure 10.5m long, by 3.5m wide and 3.1m high. Meanwhile fuel consumption is reduced through the Eco-Mode, which lowers engine output according to load.

As with the existing compact SP15 and SP25 pavers, the SP80 series is also equipped with WI-Control, which can automatically recognise machine configuration and set the optimum parameters accordingly. It also allows the machine to be connected with the customer's own fleet management system through a standard interface. Another sophisticated package is the smooth slope electronic tilt control system, which is said to ensure high quality, high-precision paving with short machine response times. The machine is also compatible with 3D control systems from all leading suppliers through its Easy Connect 3D interface.
