Road works worth US$3.48 billion (A$5.2 billion) are planned in Sydney, Australia to improve transport connections with the new airport currently under construction. Work to Elizabeth Drive will see the road being widened, boosting capacity. Mamre Road will also be upgraded to increase traffic capacity and improve safety.

The new Western Sydney International Airport is due to open in 2026. The facility is desperately needed as Sydney’s existing airport lies too close to the city. Dating back to 1919, the city’s original airport is one of the oldest in the world and while it was a suitable site at the time, the facility is now encircled by housing. The new airport will boost capacity significantly.
