Just one bid has been received in the tender process for a major road project in Uruguay. The project is for a new stretch for Route 102, connecting Route 5 with Route 1.

The firms Grinor, Serviam and Molinsur have asked for US$270 million to build the route. However, the Uruguay Ministry of Transport has estimated the cost of the work at only $170 million. As a result, the contract looks unlikely to be awarded to the three firms.

It is not clear when a new tender process will be started for the project or whether the Ministry of Transport will revise its cost estimate for the work.

Meanwhile, the Uruguay Government committed to spend an additional $300 million on new road works between 2020 and 2025. This is on top of the $3.3 billion previously budgeted. The Uruguay Ministry of Transport manages some 56% of the maintenance and improvement works carried out on the country’s network.
