Turkey is gearing up for a massive road investment.
Turkey is planning a major road expansion programme. The plan is to expand the road network by 5,200km in five years. There will also be 86km of new road tunnels built by the end of 2024 and 192.5km by the end of 2028.
The plans are being drawn up by the country’s General Directorate of Highways (KGM). The size of the budget has not been disclosed but it will be worth several US$ billions.
In addition, 147km of bridges will be constructed on state and county roads by 2028. The plans also call for new routes that will boost truck transport, improve transport north-south and east-west. Border crossings and international routes to neighbouring nations will also be improved.
