The 2392 Spanish Road Association (FAEC) now opening its fifth International Award for Innovation in Highway Juan Antonio Fernández del Campo competition to entries. This biennial competition started in 2005 with the aim of promoting research and innovation in the road infrastructure sector. Spanish is used for the entrants as the language of international scientific reference. The prize can be awarded for various factors to a single person or teams of individuals, designers of projects, studies, for research or scholarship and dissertations. The entrants must be new and not have been submitted for other prizes, while they must also be written in Spanish. The author or authors of the winning entry will receive a prize of €12,000, and the research will be published in a volume edited by the FAEC.

The jury will assess entrants on their contribution to road technology, as well as originality and innovation. The jury will also take note of the excellence of the solutions, their scientific quality, the chances of implementing the findings and the research effort.

For the four previous competitions over 100 research papers have been submitted, developed by technicians from 200 countries around the world. The issues discussed in these works range from the paving and the materials to traffic management systems, transportation technology, equipment and construction techniques. The high turnout and the high technical quality of manuscripts submitted to the contest and the prize have become Juan Antonio Fernández del Campo in an international reference in the field of road research in Spanish language.
