Chinese manufacturer Sany Heavy Industry has introduced a five-model crawler excavator range to the European market. The C Series excavators range in operating weight from the 7.5tonne SY75C to the 35.5tonne SY335C, with models at 13.5tonnes, 21.5tonnes and 23.5tonnes. The machines are powered by Stage IIIB2724 Isuzu and 3055 Mitsubishi engines.
Sany sold more than 20,000 of these machines in the Chinese domestic market in 2011 and is keen to expand its share of the European excavator arena, through its European base in Cologne, Germany.
In addition, Sany displayed at INTERMAT a prototype electric drive version of the 7.5tonne machine, the SY75C3EH. The battery-powered machine can run for 5-6 hours between charges, with operating costs claimed to be up to 15% lower than a conventional diesel-powered model.
Sany already produces an electric version of its 1.7tonne SY16C1EW mini excavator.
