The authorities in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro State intend to invest US$1.55 billion in the road network from now until 2014. Work will be carried out to some 750km of roads with funding being provided by a combination of PPPs and sources such as the World Bank (WB) and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF).

Work to some of the roads is underway at present while the majority are at the planning stage.
Key links include a bridge spanning the Paraiba do Sul River and a bridge in Itaperuna. Other projects include a 39km section of road between the BR-101 road (in Campos dos Goytacazes) and Sao Francisco de Itabapoana, as well as a 42km stretch between Mury-Duas Barras.
Works on the RJ-130 road between Teresopolis-Friburgo, as well as the RJ-134 road (Petropolis-Sao Jose do Vale do Rio Preto) will also be carried out. Construction on a 22km section of the RJ-178 and RJ-180 roads between Quissama and Dores de Macabu is planned, as is a 27km stretch on the RJ-192 highway between Itaocara-Sao Fidelis.
