A tender to appoint a contractor for the US$1.47billion Danang-Quang Ngai highway development has been published by2829 Vietnam Expressway Corp (VEC).
The project is due for completion by 2016, according to Nguyen Tat Son, deputy general director of VEC. Under the bidding process the2332 World Bank funded US$83million bidding package will be given priority assessment.
The Danang-Quang highway will pass through Quang Nam's Chu Lai Open Economic Zone (EZ), Danang's Hoa Khanh and Lien Chieu industrial zones as well as Quang Ngai's Dung Quat EZ. The highway is expected to link to National Highway 24 going towards Koh Tum of the Central Highlands, crossing Thailand and Laos. The highway will develop a cross-border transport axis between Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos via the East West Economic Corridor.
Meanwhile, the2560 Vietnam's Ministry of Transport (MoT) has sealed build-transfer (BT) and build-operate transfer (BOT) agreements with Deo Ca Investment for the nation's biggest tunnel project.
The US$747.67million project includes the 3.9km Deo Ca tunnel, a bridge and an access road. Work is due to begin at some stage this year and take two years to complete. Being built on National Highway 1, the Deo Ca tunnel will be crossing Phu Yen province.
The government will also be the developers' underwriter and provide a commercial loan facility for US$ 800mn to assist with the project’s implementation.
