A one day conference is planned intended to optimise transport research infrastructure in Europe. Run under the auspices of the European Transport Research Alliance (ETRA), this conference will help facilitate the wider and more balanced use of transport research infrastructures in Europe. It will also help link relevant research data bases and provide for exchanges of data. The idea is to promote cooperation and networking of research infrastructures as part of the process for creating the ERA – T, the European Research Area in the field of Transport.
Specific objectives of the Conference include jointly identifying priorities and ways of collaboration between transport research organisations in using their large scale research infrastructures. They also include assessing the current state of play and current state of progress in achieving such collaboration. Another aim is to explore the opportunities for improving a more integrated, more institutionalised, and more widespread use of such infrastructures in the future as part of the unified European research space in the field of surface transport. And this will also allow for potential recommendations for the future.
The Conference is co-organised in the framework of the Final Conference of project EUTRAIN (European Transport Research Area International Cooperation activities), which is an3287 EU funded FP7 project in which several ETRA partners participate (coordinated by ECTRI). The Final Conference of the project EUTRAIN starts on October 9th 2013 in the same venue and will include presentations and recommendations on key issues of international transport research cooperation.
