Despite years of objections and delays, the A4 highway extension project in the Netherlands is now to go ahead. The project will cost €898 million and has been the subject of intense debate in the Netherlands, with local groups and environmental bodies expressing concern over possible air pollution as well as the threat to the Midden-Delfland nature reserve, which lies close to the planned route. The disagreements over the project have been running for up to 50 years but have now been over-ruled, following a landmark decision for the project to go ahead by the Dutch Supreme Court, which dismissed the objections.
