There is concern at the ongoing road safety problems for Germany, with preliminary data showing worsening casualty statistics. During 2018, 3,270 people were killed in road crashes in Germany. A further 68,000 people suffered serious injuries in road crashes in Germany during 2018, with 328,000 having minor injuries. This data was compiled by Germany’s official statistics body, Destatis.

The results from Destatis reveal a notable drop in road safety in Germany when compared with the previous year. In 2017 there were 3,180 road fatalities in Germany, while 66,513 people suffered serious injuries.

The data for March 2019 shows a worrying increase in crashes in Germany during March 2019 compared with the figures March 2018. The provisional results show that 232 people were killed in road crashes in March 2019, an increase of 8.9% from the same period in 2018. The number of people suffering injuries caused by road crashes also increased 5.1% to 27,000 for March 2019 compared to the same period for the previous year.
