Romania’s national road operator CNAIR has approved more work for the 14km Timisoara West Bypass.
The value of this project is estimated at nearly €459 million (US$507.6 million) with the contractor given 30 months to complete the project.
According to the European Investment Bank, the project consists of the construction and upgrading or 26km roads to motorway standard, plus completion of a bypass of Timisoara. The two project roads form a continuous section of motorway that will be part of the pan-European TEN-T corridor 7.
With around 320,000 inhabitants, Timișoara is the third most populous city in Romania, after the capital Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca and is the capital city of Timiș County. It was one of several European Capitals of Culture for 2021, along with Elefsina in Greece and Novi Sad in Serbia.
