The flotation deal for Chilean highway operator Autopista do Pacifico is on track. The firm is controlled by the Italian company Atlantia and will be floated on Santiago's stock market. Analysts have set Autopista do Pacifico's value at US$ 1.9 billion.

However, this could rise following the recently agreed acquisition of the remaining 50% stakes in Chilean motorway concessionaries Litoral Central and Vespuccio Sur. A maximum of 20%-30% of Autopista do Pacifico will be sold during the market-based capital increase. Santander, Credit Suisse and Mediobanca are to act as global coordinators for the flotation. Atlantia also plans to change the name of Autopista do Pacifico to Grupo Costanera.

Chilean deals

In Chile the contractor Grupo Costanera currently has deals in hand for some US$650 million. Projects Grupo Costanera is working on include road works in the eastern part of Santiago, the construction of a connection with Route 78 from the union of Costanera Norte with Route 68 that goes to Valparaiso, and the Santiago-Lampa highway. Grupo Costanera is at present 45.8% owned by Atlantia. But Atlantia intends to increase its stake in Grupo Costanera and take a controlling interest by June of this year.

Spanish firm keen to develop Chilean projects

Spanish infrastructure firm Abertis is keen to develop a series of projects in Chile. In all the projects are worth over US$900 million. Abertis has presented these projects to Chile's Ministry of Public Works. This move follows the acquisition by Abertis of the remaining 50% stock holding in the country's Autopista Central motorway concession. This was bought from Canadian fund manager Alberta Investment Management (AIMCo) for over $1 billion.
