The American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) is accepting nominations for its 2013 Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards and Contractor Safety Awards. These recognise the best successes of public and private-sector organisations involved in building the US transportation network.
The Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards highlight schemes designed to reduce roadway work zone construction accidents, injuries, and fatalities. These are in three categories: outreach campaigns, training programmes, and innovations in technology. The competition is open to both individuals and organisations and is judged by an independent panel to evaluate the entries and select winners.
The Contractor Safety Awards highlight firms introducing exceptional employee health and safety programmes. These were developed to promote worker safety and health in the transportation design and construction industry. ARTBA members in the Contractors Division can apply for recognition in one of three categories, based on number of employee hours worked during the previous year. These are: 1,000,001 or more; 500,001-1,000,000, or 500,000 or fewer. First tier qualification is based on a contractor’s OSHA Recordable Rate; the benchmark is below 4.6. Finalists will be invited to make a presentation before the ARTBA Safety and Insurance Committee September 8th at the association’s National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Winners of the awards will then be recognised at a special ARTBA Foundation Awards Luncheon the following day.
