Given this, it was not surprising that there was considerable interest in attending “The 3rd Annual Roads and Highways Conference” from March 7th – 9th 2016.
Kiran Kapila, chairman,1201 IRF Geneva, kicked of The 3rd Roads and Highways Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The two-day conference attracted delegates and exhibitors from several countries. Conference delegates, in addition to Malaysia, represented several countries in the region including Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, India, China, Taiwan, Kenya, UK, and Zambia. Exhibitors at the conference included several well-known international companies active in the region, including the AMMAN Group, Mitsubishi ITS, Ennis-Flint, General Electric, and TSS.
The conference was divided into two streams; Stream 1 covered topics related to design, engineering and technology, Stream 2 covered topics related to road asset management and maintenance. The two-day programme was followed by a workshop that focused on “Structuring Private Finance Highway Projects and Performance Based Contracts from Development to Implementation.” Conference participants were also able to join two site visits, one to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Integrated Transportation Information System (ITIS) Control Centre, and the second to the BRT Sunway Line.
The conference included presentations on a wide range of topics covering the latest trends in road infrastructure development, design, financing, road safety policies, new technologies and successful practices of road asset management for the most efficient cost control across the Asian region and internationally.
