No it's not a question posed by a precocious toddler or a rather senile judge but rather the name of an exciting new international competition launched by 2462 IRF and its 2469 Global Transport Knowledge Partnership (gTKP) programme.

InARoad (the Innovation Award for Road Transport in Developing Countries) has been created to recognise exemplary projects that have made significant impacts on transport in developing countries as well as to reward innovative and sustainable good practices in this field.

By honouring excellence and innovation, InARoad seeks to showcase the positive impacts of improved road infrastructure and transport services on the quality of life of communities; including notably the vital contribution roads can make towards global efforts to reduce poverty by enhancing access to new markets, jobs and opportunities as well as vital services such as education and health care.

The InARoaD Award is for people who are passionate about their achievements in advancing transport in developing countries and emerging economies, and who are prepared to invest their time in presenting a project file in exchange for public recognition of the excellence of their work.
Projects can be submitted in eight theme categories: Environment & Climate Change; Finance & Economics; Governance; Road Safety; Rural Transport; Social Development; Trade & Transport; and Urban Mobility. This enables the initiative to address a wide range of issues reflecting the integrated and interdependent nature of both the modern world and our industry - from reducing the environmental footprint of road construction to creating innovative funding mechanisms for more universal, efficient, safe and sustainable transport.

IRF firmly believes that by gathering and sharing information on the numerous, exemplary but often unpublicised, initiatives being undertaken throughout the world at field level it can not only promote the importance and achievements of our industry in the global development context, but also highlight and encourage innovative ideas that might serve as a road map to inspire others whilst stimulating ongoing South-South exchanges.

Full details of each project selected by the juries on the basis of exceptional merit will be available in the transport knowledge resource centre, and will also be widely publicised by IRF in influential professional publications and at prominent international transport events.

Besides receiving attractive prizes, the three overall winners will be invited to make short presentations and/or show short films introducing their projects at a special Awards Ceremony.
