Enhancing the sustainability of road planning, construction and operation has long been one of 1201 IRF Geneva's priority themes. With the call for greener construction practices increasing worldwide, IRF is helping to both encourage and inform this evolution through an authoritative new online resource.

Developed by the 1009 New Zealand Transport Agency, the ‘Environmental Management and Urban Design online learning tool’ offers a comprehensive series of learning modules, particularly targeted to the needs of transport planners, project managers, road authority officials, engineering bureaus and other international transport professionals. Project specific strategies and planning, as well as real-world case studies and examples, stimulate the practical application of the knowledge acquired into everyday work and business scenarios.
The new online e-learning tool currently offers six multifaceted modules, covering Erosion and Sediment Control, Road Traffic Noise Management, Highway Landscaping, Storm Water Management, Air Quality Management and Urban Design. Each combines informative text with interactive exercises. Participants can select to follow single modules in line with their specific interests, or opt to undertake the full course, which, on successful completion of the requisite number of modules, entitles them to the prestigious IRF Certificate in Environment Management and Urban Design.
