Organisations behind the Rio de Janeiro's RJ122 project; the Kosovo Motorway project; the Maryland Intercounty Connector (ICC) project, and the New York City ITS Modernisation Program were among those honoured at the prestigious ceremony, which gathered three hundred high-level government officials and industry executives.
Several award winners offered their views on the significance of achieving global industry recognition.
“We’re delighted to have won this prestigious award, which is a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved on the Kosovo motorway project,” said Mike Mix, Bechtel-Enka project manager for the Kosovo Motorway as he jointly accepted the award in the Program Management category with Kosovo’s Infrastructure Minister, His Excellency, Fehmi Mujota.
“It is a significant honour to win this award,” said MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel, whose agency scooped the Finance & Economics award. “Transportation agencies and businesses from across the world compete.
The Better Roads program allows us to get the highest return on our transportation investments by exploring use of innovative methods of contracting, design and construction. It says a great deal about Minnesota’s innovative transportation engineering and delivery efforts.”
Pete Ruane, president & CEO of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association who is one of the most respected voices in the industry delivered the ceremony’s keynote address. Ruane underlined that despite ideological divisions, there remained strong support across the board for transportation improvements. Singling out MAP-21, the US highway and transit bill, Ruane emphasised that surface transportation programs are becoming more efficient and accountable to the public. In a context where deficit reduction remains a priority, he suggested that long-term solutions and innovative approaches are needed to ensure highway, bridge and transit network continue to promote economic growth.
