Caterpillar’s industrial engines division has introduced a new version of its venerable C9.3 Acert engine. Badged the C9.3B, the new power unit retains its six-cylinder, 9.3litre format, but with the deletion of EGR, revised air handling, improved fuel injection and improved electronics, the engine is said to be ready to meet anticipated Stage V emissions regulations.

Engine manufacturer MTU, a division of Rolls Royce Power Systems, is offering an emissions flex package for new and used engines operating in countries where different emissions requirements and high sulphur diesel are in use. It enables exhaust after-treatment and SCR systems to be deactivated simply by software, rather than hardware changes, said the company.

Perkins’ industrial engine range has been extended upwards with the development of 9.3, 12.5, 15.2 and 18.1litre engines that are based on a worldwide platform enabling engine production to be structured to meet emissions regulations ranging from Stage 3A through to anticipated Stage V regulations.

TCD 5.0 is the name given to the latest engine from Deutz. The five-litre, four-cylinder engine fills a gap between the 4.1litre TCD 4.1 and 6.1litre TCD 6.1 engines. The new engine offers a power rating from 100-150kW but occupies the same physical size as the smaller capacity TCD 4.1.

John Deere Power Systems says its current engine line-up is already capable of meeting the expected Stage V emissions levels as a result of fitting DPF technology to meet current emissions requirements. Deutz used bauma 2016 to introduce two new high-torque variants of its TCD sub-4litre engines. These include the TCD 2.9 and TCD 3.6 engines. Where the 2.9litre TCD 2.9 has been re-tuned to produce a maximum torque figure of 375Nm, the TCD 3.6 has been tweaked to deliver 390Nm. Importantly, Deutz said both engines remain below the 56kW emissions threshold for Stage V, so they do not require SCR to clean up exhaust gases.

MAN has revealed two new ranges of off-highway engines that are said to lay the foundation of its EU Stage V emissions regulation strategy. The two ranges include a six-cylinder 15.26 litre engine offering outputs from 415-485kW and a larger 24.24 litre V12 engine with power outputs from 588-816kW. German engine manufacturer Deutz has today announced its financial results for 2015. New orders amounted to €1.2259 billion, down by 11.1% on the prior-year figure of €1.379 billion. In the service business, new orders were up by 7.2% however, although other segments reported a decrease in new orders compared with 2014.
