Weir’s breakthrough Lina 88, a mine-tested and solvent-free adhesive for cold-bonding rubber

Weir Minerals (Weir), the manufacturer of Linatex premium natural rubber, has partnered with adhesive producer Henkel and its team of LOCTITE adhesive, sealant, and coating specialists to produce LINATEX LOCTITE - LINA 88, a solvent-free, mine and quarry-tested range of adhesives for the cold bonding of rubber.

LINA 88 is said to be a mining and quarrying industry-first solvent-free adhesive range for rubber lining applications with zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs), delivering multiple environmental and safety benefits.

With LINA 88 products, cutting down the VOC emissions does not mean having to compromise on performance, says Weir. A breakthrough in adhesive technology for the cold bonding of rubber to both metal and rubber substrates, the new range claims excellent cold bond strength.

The custom-formulated LINA 88 adhesive range is said by Weir to set a new industry benchmark, with up to four times the bond strength required in the British Standards BS6374 Part 5. It is also said to be significantly stronger than other products presently used in quarrying and mining.

The LINATEX  LOCTITE – LINA 88 solvent-free adhesive range is designed for us in a wide range of applications including hydrocyclones, flotation cells, tanks, mills, pipes, and chutes – anywhere where rubber is applied to protect customers’ valuable mining and quarrying equipment.
