A major road development project for Mongolia will be carried out on the AH-3 route. A 21km stretch of the highway will be widened and upgraded by the Chinese contractor 5544 Sinohydro Corporation Limited Company. Funding for the work is being provided in the shape of a loan worth US$1 billion from the Chinese Government. The section of AH-3 route to be upgraded links the spurs for Gachuurt and Nalaikh, lying to the south east of capital Ulaanbaatar. The work is commencing in 2019 and includes adding new lighting, as well as provision for cyclists and pedestrians.
